A very close second (behind Nancye Hayes) for number of performances at HMT, is one of our absolute favourite people, and an incredibly gifted performer – Jill Perryman!
What can one say about Miss Jill Perryman/Mrs Kevan Johnston? Known for some time as Australia’s First Lady of Musical Comedy, Jill has appeared in over 12 shows at Her Majesty’s and countless productions elsewhere.
She first met her husband Kevan Johnston at HMT during “Call Me Madam” when she understudied Evie Hayes, and eleven months later she & Kevan were engaged.
In the mid 70’s they settled in Perth but commuted constantly as producers were queuing for their talent. “Funny Girl” elevated Jill to national stardom and her musical credits at HMT include “Hello Dolly“, “Carnival“, “Can Can“, “No,No, Nanette“, “A Little Night Music” and “Annie” in which she says she loved playing Miss Hannigan because (according to Jill) “she was such a stinker!”
Jill has been awarded nearly every award imaginable for her work in theatre, including an ‘A.M’ and an ‘M.B.E.’ In 2013 here at HMT, the Equity Foundation honoured Jill & Kevan with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
