The outstanding career of Nancy Hayes began when she debuted at the tender age of 18 in the company of My Fair Lady here at HMT. From there she played smaller roles and understudied leads in several musicals before taking on her first starring role in Sweet Charity again on the HMT stage.
A multi-award winning performer, Nancye has been in high demand ever since. She even has a theatre named after her – the Hayes Theatre in Sydney.
Thirteen years ago to the day, Nancye appeared at HMT in the new Australian musical Eureka. One of her costumes measured 3 metres, weighed an incredible 20Kg and was so large the only place to store it was to hoist it up to the ceiling of the scene dock each night.
A true legend of the Australian industry – thanks Nancye!
