Billy Elliot The Musical

"... while it is an extraordinary live spectacle, [the musical] loses none of the poignancy and humour of the movie. It might even be better than the original." The Age, 2 Jan 09
Billy Elliot The Musical has arrived in Melbourne. Based on the film of the same name, Billy Elliot is the gritty, funny and heart-warming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a celebration of his triumph against the odds. Set against the historic British miners' strike of 1984-85, the story follows Billy's journey as a boy in a small mining town who, after stumbling across a ballet class on his way to boxing lessons, realises that his future lies not in the boxing ring, but on stage as a dancer.

Directed by Stephen Daldry, with book and lyrics by Lee Hall, Billy Elliot was developed for the stage by the same multi-award winning creative team responsible for the film. The score was composed by music legend, Elton John.

Praise for the Melbourne season, which premiered at Her Majesty's on New Year's Eve.
"Billy Elliot is a feast of dance and song, technical wizardry and inspired stagecraft that will make you laugh and cry."
"... the casting of the child actors is nothing short of incredible."
"... a series of breathtaking theatrical moments."
